Ideal Cast for Abarat Movie

By: DW Tyn

Authors Note:

When I was a freshman in High-School, I found a book by a certain writer/director/artist by the name of Clive Barker; the book was called Abarat. This book had the most original and fantastic story-line and inner concepts than all the books I've ever read before it. It helped me make up my mind and become a writer of Speculative Fiction. Since I've seen a lot of Ideal Cast stuff posted here on Deviant-Art, I thought I would do the honors of thinking up the cast for a movie if they ever made one. So without further ado, let's float down the Sea of Izabella and check out the people of the Abarat.</P>

Cast:

Candy Quackenbush: I would go with Miranda Cosgrove, because she bears a great resemblance to Barker's drawing of Candy; that and the fact that I'm a fan of iCarly (Mostly for Spencer; he silly.).

John Mischief: I would have to choose Paul Giamatti, because he is a great character actor and he shares some facial similarities with Mischief. They would have to use make-up effects to put the antlers on him; and they can add the heads of Mischief's 'brothers' using CGI and giving all of them Paul's face and giving them different voices.

Malingo the Geshrat: This is a hard one; I would go with either Freddie Highmore or Alexander Ludwig.

The Fantomaya: For these three mysterious ladies, I would cast Helen Mirren as Diamanda, the old wise-woman; Zoë Saldana as Joephi, the feral-woman; and Angela Basset as Mespa, the lady with dark skin and eyes like the night sky.

Kaspar Wolfswinkel: Without a shadow of a doubt, I would cast Verne Troyer (Yes, the guy who play Mini-Me.) as the rum-loving, despicable dwarf magician, because if you saw him as Percy in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, you'd know that he did a great performance.

Otto Houlihan: I would cast Tim Roth as Houlihan, the Criss-Cross Man, because he is looks perfect for the part and he knows how to act seedy and shifty.

Rojo Pixler: I would cast Tom Waits (Mr. Nick in The Imaginarium.) as Rojo Pixler, the cross between Walt Disney and Donald Trump of the Abarat, because he was just as good as Verne was in that movie (FYI, He did play the Devil in that movie, so there you go.).

Jimothi Tarrie: I would cast Doug Jones as Jimothi Tarrie, the most human of the Tarrie Cats of the Island of Ninnyhammer.

Mater Motley: For Mater Motley, an evil old hag and co-antagonist of the story, I would cast Christine Rose from Heroes, because she's perfect to play the part; that, and I've always hated her rotten manipulative guts.

Christopher Carrion: And last but certainly not least, we have the main antagonist: Christopher Carrion, the Prince of Midnight. For him, I would defiantly cast Luke Goss of Blade II and Hellboy II The Golden Army fame, because he's a dead ringer for Barker's drawing of him; he doesn't even need a wig like his previous roles.

So, there you have it. If you've ever read Abarat, then you may have noticed that I have left a few characters out; such as Samuel Hastrim Klepp V, Finnegan Hob, and Princess Boa. Well, that is because I want you, the reader to help me with those. Thank you very much for reading, and have a nice day.

This is my Dream-Cast for the movie adaptation of one of my favorite books, Abarat. If you haven't read it, then what's fraking stopping you. Tell me what you think.

Dead on for Carrion!
